University of Bristol Alumni Awards 2022

Ben is thrilled to be the recipient of this year’s University of Bristol Alumni Award for Community Engagement and Impact.

Professor Sarah Purdy, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Student Experience acted as chair of the cross-University award selection panel for this year’s awards. Speaking about the winners, she said: “Our Award Winners are pioneers, visionaries, and leaders in their field, and they make an extraordinary impact across the globe.”

 

Music and Drama Awards 2022

Ben is delighted and very honoured to have been a finalist in the Music and Drama Education Awards 2022. Ben was nominated for the Francesca Hanley Inspiration Award for his work with homechoir and Choir of the Earth/Around Sound. He didn’t win on this occasion but was so pleased to have been nominated.

Kantele of the year 2022

Ben was honoured by the Finnish Kantele Association in February 2022 for ‘a remarkable job of making Kantele better known’. His work with the beautiful Kantele can be heard on most Homechoir broadcasts! Read more about this wonderful instrument here:

British Empire Medal

Ben was made a member of the Order of the British Empire by The Queen in the Birthday Honours 2020 for services to choral music and the community, following his establishing homechoir and his work with the Self-Isolation Choir/Choir of the Earth. He received the British Empire Medal (BEM) from Sir Edward Gillespie, the Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire in September 2021.
